Installation

This computer does not have an internal optical drive, but there are several options for installing gentoo: a USB CD drive, a bootable flashdrive, or netboot.

If you want to be able to use the windows restore disk in the future, the 1G partition at the end of the disk needs to still be there. I used a gparted LiveCD to resize the windows partition for dual booting.

To install gentoo, I used the x86 LiveCD but did a regular gentoo install using su in a gnome terminal, reading the handbook on the web in firefox. The wireless card was not supported by the LiveCD but the wired was. It went fairly smoothly.

Networking

Ethernet

See this guide.

Wireless

There are two different possible wireless cards the P1610 comes with. The atheros is supported by madwifi-ng and the intel should also be fairly straightforward.
