Ircd-hybrid

Introduction

ircd-hybrid is a high peformance ircd based on ircd2.8/th.v5a.3. It is used on EFnet, Rizon and many other networks. It is RFC compliant and has a rich feature set that is not bloated. 1

Preparation

Before emerging ircd-hybrid you are highly encouraged to edit its ebuild to change some settings.

  1. nano /usr/portage/net-irc/ircd-hybrid/ircd-hybrid-7.2.1.ebuild
  2. ebuild /usr/portage/net-irc/ircd-hybrid/ircd-hybrid-7.2.1.ebuild digest

If you want to enable halfops (+h) add "myconf="${myconf} --enable-halfops"" right above "econf \" If you would like to disable gline voting, add --disable-gline-voting after --enable-halfops

Installation/Configuration

Installing ircd-hybrid is easy. Do this:

  1. echo "net-irc/ircd-hybrid ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
  2. echo "net-irc/ircd-hybrid contrib" >> /etc/portage/package.use
  3. emerge =ircd-hybrid-7.2.1
  4. emerge --config =net-irc/ircd-hybrid-7.2.1

Then edit your /etc/ircd/ircd.conf and /etc/ircd/ircd.motd.

  1. /etc/init.d/ircd start
  2. rc-update add ircd default
