Mathematica

This article is still a Stub. You can help Gentoo-Wiki by expanding it.

Mathematica is an high level language for symbolic and numerical computing.

Warning at startup

After installation, with recent version of Xorg one can obtain these warnings when Mathematica is started in graphic mode (that is, with command Mathematica)

Code: Warnings
Warning: locale not supported by Xlib, locale set to C
Warning: X locale modifiers not supported, using default
Warning: translation table syntax error: Unknown keysym name: osfActivate

this problem seems to be related to files which have changed their original positions inside the filesystem hierarchy. The solution is easy just do the following as root (or prepend each command with a "sudo")

cd /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/
rm locale
ln -s /usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB XKeysymDB
ln -s /usr/share/X11/locale/ locale
Note: If you are a modular X user, you should also install the xset utility
emerge xset

and for version 5.2 also xlsfonts

emerge xlsfonts
