Introduction

Metisse is an alternative X server and desktop environment headed by Mandriva which uses some of the same basic concepts as Compiz, Beryl, and XGL. It has the additional ability to use windows in a transformed state. Preliminary support for the new X server and Fvwm is included in Hanno's overlay. Instructions for setting up his overlay are here. You can also use the sabayon overlay (layman -a sabayon).

Installation

Code: Install Metisse
# emerge metisse
 

before you start running metisse you need to install mDNSResponder or else you'll get this error

[FVWM][main]: <<ERROR>> can't open display 127.0.0.1:1
Code: Install mDNSResponder
# emerge -av mDNSResponder
 

Running

First, start the modified X server ( -ac to disable access control restrictions ):

# Xmetisse :1 -ac &

Then start Fvwm:

# metisse-start-fvwm -wd :1 &
