List available kernel modules

The list of available kernel modules for the currently running kernel can be obtained using: modprobe -l

Displaying information about a module

The modinfo tool is used to show description summary information about a kernel module. The modinfo tool lists each attribute of the module in the form of fieldname : value, for easy reading.

Common field names (which may not be in every module) include author, description, licence, param, depends, and alias. A module may have more than one param, alias and depends fields. The filename field provides the filename of the module.

Example: Display information for the deflate module: modinfo deflate
