Keyboard / Mouse

Mine (Remco from The Netherlands) does not work correctly... I have very strange keyboard-issues: sometimes (about 60% of the time) the keyboard/mouse are not detected at boot, both from installed partitions and from different installation disks (Ubuntu/Gentoo/Knoppix)... So far, no solution.

Same here (CreativeThings,NL as well) disabling ACPI by using acpi=off and noacpi @boot worked for me for both knoppix as well as ubuntu. Did not try gentoo yet.

My solution was to add i8042.reset to the kernel parameters. The problem hasn't occurred since. This solution has also worked on a hp laptop with the same problem

THX! -> acpi=off and noacpi did not worked for me... the i8042.reset argument is working for me and 4 co-workers issues since three weeks (all 5 are vostro 1510)

Sometimes after boot ethernet card fail to work with in-kernel r8169 driver. In dmesg:

Aug 3 01:32:08 localhost kernel: [ 182.525209] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:07:00.0 disabled
Aug 3 01:32:21 localhost kernel: [ 195.128512] r8169 Gigabit Ethernet driver 2.2LK-NAPI loaded
Aug  3 01:32:21 localhost kernel: [  195.128512] ACPI: PCI Interrupt 0000:07:00.0[A] -> GSI 16 (level, low) -> IRQ 16
Aug 3 01:32:21 localhost kernel: [ 195.128512] PCI: cache line size of 32 is not supported by device 0000:07:00.0
Aug 3 01:32:21 localhost kernel: [ 195.128535] ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:07:00.0 disabled
Aug 3 01:32:21 localhost kernel: [ 195.129708] r8169: probe of 0000:07:00.0 failed with error -22

My solution was to use latest driver from Realtek (here) and blacklist in-kernel r8169.

Intel Graphics

I have found some bugs while using stable x11-driver/xf86-video-i810, however latests one (x11-drivers/xf86-video-i810-2.3.2) works well.

To get the sound working, you have to specify the model:

File: /boot/grub/grub.conf
 kernel other_kernel_options snd-hda-intel.model=laptop-eapd
File: /etc/modprobe.d/snd_hda_intel
 options snd_hda_intel model=laptop-eapd

Afterwards run update-modules.
